                                 Religion

Even though Gambia is a predominantly Muslim, with up to 90% of the population practicing Islam, it is considered as a very tolerant country of all religious beliefs. The remaining 10% is a mix of Christians and other localized traditional religions. Islam came to this part of West Africa across the Sahara early in the second millennium and quickly became a commanding influence with most of the population converting.
